Archery is a sport for any age group and is accessible for many that have a disability. If you have played competitive sport but no longer enjoy the rough and tumble of rugby or football or your child expresses an interest archery then Fosse Company of Archers may be the club for you, it is even suitable for couples that are looking for a joint activity.

Beginners

Please read the below information before contacting the club

 

To join any archery club, you must first complete a beginner’s course, see below for details.

Archery Beginners Course

This course covers basic skills and safety procedures. The course will include 9 hours of training split over several sessions

with training and support from qualified coaches who will teach the necessary safety skills and the setting up of a club bow.

Also covered are an introduction to scoring and the  different bow styles used in archery.

Upon completion of the course we expect you to be shooting independently under observation at 20 yards and will receive a certificate that allows you to join any archery club.

The minimum age for participation is 10 and all juniors, under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Our club aims to run two beginners’ courses per year. The specific dates will be set nearer the time once we know availability of our club coaches and interest from potential participants.

If you would like to take part in the next beginners course, you will need to complete an application form. The form will be available to download when we open up places for the next course (approx 60 days before the course start date, please download - here.

What do I need to bring/wear?

All archery equipment is provided.

Please wear clothes that are close fitting on the arms and torso. For personal safety loose hair is to be tied back, and loose jewellery to be removed prior to shooting. No open toed shoes.

Some courses are held outdoors so bring appropriate clothing and a bottle of water.

What if I want to join the club? 

At Fosse Company of Archers, we allow our new members to hire the club bows  for up to 3 months or until the next course, whichever is less. There is a small fee each time they are used in addition to shooting fees (senior bow hire: £1, junior: 50p per session).

 

After completing your beginners course if you would like to join our club, the fees are broken down on the Club Information Page and can be explained by the membership secretary.
